Cancer is a major health concern in Iran, with the incidence of new cases continuing to rise. According to the latest data from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), there were an estimated 66,968 new cases of cancer in Iran in 2020, with breast and colorectal cancers being the most common types in women and men, respectively.

There are several factors contributing to the rising incidence of cancer in Iran, including an aging population, exposure to environmental pollution and lifestyle changes such as increased tobacco consumption and physical inactivity.

Despite these challenges, Iran has made significant progress in cancer treatment in recent years. The country has invested in developing its healthcare infrastructure and training oncology specialists, resulting in improved survival rates for many types of cancer. Additionally, the government has made efforts to increase access to cancer treatments, including through the provision of subsidized chemotherapy drugs.

However, there are still significant disparities in cancer outcomes across different regions of Iran, with rural areas often lacking access to effective cancer care. More work is needed to address these disparities and ensure that all Iranians have access to timely and effective cancer treatment.
